Description
This inactive iron ore ship dock, part of the Lake Superior and Ishpeming Railroad, sits disused and abandoned at the Marquette Harbor, Marquette, Michigan. In the winter of 2013-2014 Lake Superior froze over completely to a depth of six feet. For the first time in nearly 50 years, it was possible to walk across the surface of the lake from the United States to Canada. This image was captured in late May 2014, when the ice was finally just starting to break up and melt.
